I loved this movie, developed from the earliest imaginings of Tim Burton’s creative mind, even as a youth!

Common Sense Media: “…will likely scare kids who are sensitive to the macabre,” it would be appropriate for “older kids and tweens who are ready for some scares.”

“Hocus Pocus”  (1993)

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy are hilarious as their witchy characters!  

The children in the film learn valuable lessons  as they face peril and the naughty witches!  Of course I love anything with a black kitty!  I cried at the end, but no worries… It’s all good.

“ParaNorman” (2012)

Great Halloween fare, featuring zombies, witches, cursed tomes with a boy that ‘sees dead people’.

“ParaNorman” is gorgeous visually that adults will appreciate.

Rating: PG Ages: Common Sense Media: Viewers ages 10 and older.  A few scenes might be a little intense for younger audiences.

NIM’S ISLAND

In this exciting fantasy, Nim has a remote island all to herself (but for her quirky animal friends) after her scientist father must leave, until she begins to communicate in an unusual way with the author of the novel she’s reading.

Alone on an island when her scientist father leaves for three days to study plankton and  is gone longer than expected and she must figure out how to do many things including how to start a fire.  The adorable Abigail Breslin is the resourceful Nim.

But she’s not really alone.  She has her friend the sea lion she must care for.

And of course cares for her emotionally and more ways than one.

As well as her iguana friend, and both marvelous critters makes for some fun comic relief.

Nim loses cell contact with her father.

She ends up in a mysterious email communication with the author of a book she as been reading.

Based on the novel Nim at Sea by Wendy Orr more exciting adventure awaits you and Nim and her Father.   How will Nim  save her beloved island from people wanting to buy it and build an attraction there?

The actors have changed, but the characters we love have not and are compelling as ever.   This time Edmund is played by Toby Wallace, seen here chatting with Nim.

And who could possibly have been a more appropriate Nim than the wonderful, Australian actor, songwriter, host, Bindi Irwin.

Daughter of the famous, late Steve Irwin, “Crocodile Hunter”, Australian wildlife expert, television personality, and conservationist. 

In August of 2015, Bindi became even better known and loved as a contestant then winner on Dancing with the Stars – season 21 with Derek Hough.

And as I said, making for the perfect Nim.  For me, makes it even more fun to watch knowing that.  Enjoy!

Deja Vous  &  Round and Round We Go!

If you haven’t seen this movie, those are my hints, and while you might somewhat imagine the premise, I don’t believe anyone could envision how beautifully well crafted this movie is in every way.

It is LOL, wee wee your pants, hilarious!

No big spoilers from me, but let’s just say prominent weatherman, Bill Murray (Phil), sarcastic and sour-on-most-everything, ends up in a Time Warp.  This takes frustration to a whole new level!

FYI – During filming, Groundhog Phil, took a chunk outta Phil! (Bill) Confused?  See more!

This film is so full of funny, but surprisingly touching.  I cry like a baby in places.  You know the saying, “Learn From Your Mistakes”?  Well, this film is the epitome of that lesson, making you to want every moment you have on this earth, to be special and count the ‘first time around’.

Romantic comedy to the umpth degree.

The lovely Andie MacDowell and Bill Murray make for marvelous chemistry.

I’ve watched this about a zillion times and never grow tired of it! Even though a large part of it basically loops again and again, it’s amazing to me how writer/director, Harold Ramis, managed to make every moment interesting and count.  In fact, unforgettable!  Sadly, he passed in 2014 at only 69, but lived to see his work bare fruit and find the longevity of success.  Ghost Busters I & II (Writer).  Also starring Murray!
