2017 Ground Hog Day! Snow Boots or Cherry Blossoms?

SNOW SHOVELING or SPRING CLEANING?

2017, February 2, Punxsutawney Phil has spoken! (In his own special way.)  A huge crowd of tens of thousands were in Gobblers Knob, Punxsutawney, Pa., this morning , as they waited with cold bated breath for Phil to do his thing.  Would he see his shadow?  Six more weeks of snow shovels and frosty breath or Spring Cleaning to look forward to? (Some wouldn’t mind putting off that!)

So… What’s the weather verdict for 2017?

WHELP!  Phil has predicted SIX MORE WEEKS OF THIS!  🙁

And THIS………………………………

But there’s always THIS!  😀  Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

And this… WINTER WONDERLAND

I try to find what I can SMILE about in most situations. 🙂

But Phil and Phil (Bill) are NOT looking too happy about all that SNOW!  OR, could it be something else?

Bill Murray as Phil with Phil the Groundhog in Groundhog Day.

PHIL TAKES A CHUNK OUTTA PHIL-BILL

Perhaps both these guys are feeling a bit disgruntled, as apparently, Phil bit Bill twice during shooting!  It is said they were severe enough that Murray needed anti rabies injections!  Ouch.  (Poor little Phil.  I’m referring to Groundhog Phil.  Can’t say I blame him.)  🙁   But yeah, also a bummer for Phil-Bill.

So fascinating to know what goes on behind the scenes we never know about!  Such as some of the pain and injury I went through while filming Troll 2 !   (Those stories to come!)  😀

HOW DOES PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL DO IT?

Now, back to the real Punxsutawney Phil story!  So, what’s all the shadow-seeing-weather-predicting stuff all about?  How does Phil do it?

magic-top+hat-wand-DebDoTell   “You could say, IT’S MAGIC!”   Sing along, now.

Phil would probably rather be munching on clover in an early Spring, but his Shadow has ‘Spoken’!

Staten Island Chuck, Staten Island’s own weather-predicting rodent, came to a warmer conclusion…  😉

So, who’s to know for sure?  Phil has been predicting the weather for 131 years!  It’s said he predicts longer winter about 80% of the time.  How often is he right?  Here’s a fun animation explanation.

EITHER WAY, it is amazing to me how quickly time flies.  Before I’m ready for it, Spring will be here.  I do look forward to tender buds the sweet songbird melodies.  I know winter has been hard on so many this year and I do hope that eases soon.

The lovely Andie MacDowell and Bill Murray, both, at their finest, in my opinion.  I can’t imagine ANYONE else in these parts.  This film makes me giggle, cry, goose-bump and smile, and smile and smiiiiiiiiiiiiile.

Yay, that means more skiing for me! Groundhogs Day is one of the best films, but not as good as Troll 2. ?

I must admit, I watched Groundhog Day TWICE today! I kid you not. I watched it while I prepped dinner and again with my man when he got home. I could do (and have done) the same with Troll 2. These are a couple of my absolute favorites.

Oh Holly, you are so kind to include my movie with Groundhog Day! ha ha… I am watching it right now and it’s on again (AMC) in 1/2 hour and I’m watching it again! Yay! Thank you so much for commenting! 🙂

I was listening to CBC Radio today and their question for their listeners was: Is it time to give up on Groundhog Day? The overwhelming response was that we NEED to keep up the tradition of Groundhog Day. One listener even suggested that Groundhog Day become an official holiday here in Canada! Groundhog Day offers a glimmer of hope and a chuckle amid some of winter’s greyest days…again and again and again.

Wow, how interesting, Dawn. Thank you so much for that fun trivia/info! I’m glad you will still be enjoying. I love what you say about “a glimmer of hope and a chuckle amid some of winter’s grayest days”. Thanks so much for commenting and sharing from Canada! 🙂

I don’t know, it was overcast all day at my house, so I am hoping for an early spring. 😉

Groundhog Day is my Groundhog Day tradition every year. 😀 There is something irresistible about the redemption story – the reminder that each day we have a choice on how to live it. Are we going to waste it or make the most of it? I’m very glad to be able to hand down the tradition of watching this movie each year…added to my watching of Bachelor Mother (Ginger Rogers & David Niven) each New Year’s Eve and a slew of other movies that fit certain days of the year to a T.
Nice to learn that Bill Murray’s brother played a role; I didn’t know that before!

Love your generous musings on our mutual admiration of “Groundhog Day”, Nikita. I’m also glad to know about the movie, “Bachelor Mother”. One of the retro classics I’ve missed! I shall have to check it out and review it. Thanks much for commenting. 🙂
