It’s time for THE TWILIGHT ZONE Marathon on the SyFy channel!  December 31 through ALL NEW YEARS DAY! What’s YOUR Twilight Zone Fave?  I’d love to know!  Below are 13 of mine!   I’ve been a HUGE FAN for as long as I can remember.  (And that’s a loooooong time.)  Watching always brings back the memory of anxiously waiting in front of our black and white TV for that unmistakable tune which has beguiled us through the decades, even greeting us on our ringtones.  (Mine!) 

So naturally, I was simply pleased-as-otherworldly-punch, when I was honored to get to know the marvelous Anne Serling, daughter of the great Rod Serling, when we were both Special Guests at Comic Con.

Every time I re-watch an episode of The Twilight Zone, I find yet another nugget of wisdom, mirth or irony, carefully hidden just beneath the surface of the obvious.  Rod Serling was a brilliant pioneer in his field with a tremendous talent and heart.  He didn’t need to get on a pulpit or soapbox and shout out his thoughts.  With his good looks and a voice like none other, he rendered eloquent, provoking introductions, then wove fascinating stories for us to watch, letting us look within and come to our own conclusions.  

Just like any great literature, they are as relevant now, as when they first aired.  Perhaps more so, which certainly gives one pause.  “Man’s Inhumanity to Man” is often an underlying thread, but also often Humanity, as we learned from classic characters like Ebeneezer Scrooge – magical stories that make us reflect, then hopefully make our and others’ lives better through perspective, caring more, giving more and “Passing it forward” as we move through a new age dimension of a real-world “Twilight Zone”.

EAT YOUR FRUITS & VEGGIES!  

Naturally, the best thing we can do is take preventative measures and eat as healthfully as we can!  Eating lots of yummy produce!  I feel it’s important, however, that you go organic where possible.  I know that’s not always easy or in the budget.  So it’s good to know each year’s DIRTY DOZEN & CLEAN FIFTEEN.  If you know what’s on the list, you will be  ‘in the know’ for your choices that aren’t as important on which to go organic – as the pesticides/contaminates are low.

* APPLE CIDER VINEGAR *  My #1 Pick!

MY #1 – YESSSSSS! To me, there is no better, INEXPENSIVE way to remedy a myriad of ills, from skin to scalp to tummy, weight loss, to cleaning!   For a COLD? Helps soothe dry throats  and helps remove body toxins.

You know that feeling when you just know you are getting a cold?    You feel the heebie-jeebies creeping up on you.  Especially in the middle of the night! I can’t count how many times this has happened to me over the years when vinegar ‘Saved The Day’!  I’d drag myself out of beddie, take a slug of vinegar and by morning… PERFECTLY FINE!  

My absolute favorite is BRAGG ~ Organic APPLE CIDER VINEGAR (With the Mother).   

WHAT’S ‘MOTHER’?

The thick sediment in the bottom of your vinegar container – THAT’S GOOD!  It’s the friendly bacteria full of proteins, enzymes and potassium which supports a healthy immune system!   (Shake well!)

Apple Cider Vinegar – capsules  – Handy if you don’t have the liquid available.

* HONEY * (Organic and unfiltered where possible)   Honey has antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidants activities! There are soooo many uses for it!  Smoothies, hot cereal, etc.! NATURE NATE’S is a very nice one.  

HEALTHFUL DRINK:  A fave daily preventative drink for many is 2 – 3 t vinegar & 1 or 2 t honey in 8 oz purified water.  If already sick, do this up to 6 X a day.  If you don’t want the honey, I like Stevia.  My fave is NuNaturals drops.  Not bitter!  What I use daily for health maintenance.

Garlic is an ancient remedy, still revered today, especially by me!  I use it in all these forms.  I love it as a seasoning on all my dishes, salads and at times will add to my vinegar drink for extra protection!  Use-Garlic-as-a-Cold-and-Flu-Remedy is a useful article on Wiki.

 Organic garlic Salt  Redmond is wonderful if you like a blend.  

Garlic Powder  Simply Organic is a great on if you want it pure and potent!  Nice in cooking.

* ONION *

Love – Cry… Onions… Get it?  Oh, aren’t I  just so hilarious.  

The onion is often called “The King of Vegetables” due to its long held belief from ancient Egyptian times of its MANY BENEFITS.

Organic Onion Salt   REDMOND ONION SALT – Slightly chunky and so easy to add to dishes when cooking!

Organic Onion Powder   FRONTIER CO-OP – I looooooooooooooove this stuff.  The powder is so fine and I slather it on all my meals.  I add it after cooked on my personal dish.

FRESH ONION – (Organic if you can!)  Yuuuuuum, nothing like sauteed in olive oil onions in my dishes.  But RAW ONION is best for a cold!  Slice thinly and have a yummy AVACADO/ONION SANDWICH on natural bread.  I like purple or sweet onions for sandwiches.  Hmmmmm – I’m hungry!  

NO CRY TRICK!  :'(    Raw Onion can get the water-works going!    Cut it under running water. It works!  Place a secure plastic board in sink (you can put a wet cloth under to keep from slipping) and give it a go. (At your own risk, so use caution!)

* OREGANO *

Oregano is an effective anti-bacterial useful for humans and animals!

Nature’s Way – Oregano Oil capsules – Easy peasy!

By mouth – Oreganol P73 Dropper – 

Simply Organic –  Oregano – Dried –  Easy way to add while cooking/baking!

Fresh – Try growing some on your window sill!

* CAYENNE *

Cayenne has crazy lots of benefits!  Great for the stuffies, as it CLEARS CONGESTION! The cayenne pepper, also known as the Guinea spice, cow-horn pepper, red hot chili pepper, aleva, bird pepper,’ or, especially in its powdered form, red pepper, is a cultivar of Capsicum annuum, which is related to bell peppers, jalapeños, paprika, and others.

Cayenne Extra Hot – capsules   – Nature’s Way ~ Easiest for me!  Reeeeal hot is too spicy for me!  Even the capsules are better with food on your tummy, I think.

 Cayenne – Granules – Simply Organic is a great brand!  I do like a light sprinkle on my food.

Healing for your body and your senses.  I have long used essential oils for years.  Always make sure your oils are Pure.  I use them directly on the body (nightly on my feet) with a little carrier oil.  My fave is coconut oil.

Essential Oils for Cold and Flu

• Tea Tree Essential Oil –  Antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic and antiviral properties
• Pine Essential Oil –  Helps to clear the nasal passages in relieving sore throat pain.
• Lavender Essential Oil –  Antiseptic and antimicrobial properties.  Gentle enough for use with children.
• Peppermint Essential Oil –  Antiseptic and anti-viral properties. Useful as an expectorant in diffuser.  But not where babies, young children are present.
• Lemon Essential Oil –  Increases your ability to fight off illness by helping to boost the body’s immune system, as it stimulates the production of white blood cells.

 1990 – Troll 2 –  What a Wild Ride!  Who knew?  None of us could have imagined this little movie we were performing in was to become the worldwide cult classic film that it is – loved by so many walks of life – “Troll 2“.

In this scene, Arnold (Darren Ewing) bravely confronts the “Monsters”.

Arnold and his new acquaintance don’t fare well, as a Goblin attack ensues!

The frightened duo stagger from the forest to a creepy looking abode.

Troll 2 Trivia: “The original church house was erected in 1898.” “Eventually, costs of maintenance and needed repairs led the congregation to remodel the old school house and convert it for use as a church. Although the school house was sold to the ward in 1936, it was not until 1946 that regular meetings were held in the refinished space, mostly due to World War II. The church was sold to Marvin and Grace Kilbourn who, despite efforts at preservation, were unable to prevent vandalism over the next several decades. As they enter, Arnold wonders where they are.  “What is this place?”

SUDDENLY, a disturbingly odd old woman appears at the top of a rickety long staircase.

My Personal Trivia:  My first appearance in the film!  Someone grabbed me from behind as a joke away from the scope of the camera – just as I was about to say my line and descend the stairs.   It threw me off mentally!   I just went on with it, which resulted in one crazy take!  But then, the majority of my lines were one-take wonders.  Hee.)

Countless pets/animals are also being affected by this crisis.  I can’t bear the thought of my sweet kitties being victims to such a tragedy.  I’ve written a blog on where to help our fellow humans, but I decided to also put together in one place – Hurricane Harvey ~ Help for Pets Options.  They also need our help!  Many are lost, confused, injured, and hungry.  There are beautiful places and people eager to help with rescues, shelter, and care.  They need our help!  We can Volunteer, Adopt, Foster, Donate money or badly needed Pet food and Supplies, Evacuations.  It is important to do it with an organization.  Could be dangerous for you! Below are various ways and places we can do that.  Each place varies in their ability and need.

My character, Creedence Leonore Gielgud is reacting to the two strangers, Arnold and a wandering lost girl who have stumbled into her creepy abode.  Arnold asks, “What is this place?”  Creedence replies, “My ancestors come from Stonehenge…..”

Poor Christina.  When I met her, I remember thinking what a lovely girl she was. I’ll never forget that sweet girl’s dilemma.  Sinking in Green Jello and her teeth were chattering!  She was freezing!    And she was stuck there for quite awhile, but fortunately was done in one take.

Emotional Loss in Texas.  So many sorting through what used to be their homes for any beloved treasure.           Photo credit: John Shear, National Desk

We watch the devastation in Texas and worry for all in harm’s way.  We see acts of great giving and heroism for both humans and animals.   Even residents who had much loss themselves, going out of their way to help each other.  Neighbors helping neighbors. People helping strangers.  This warms our hearts.

What Can We Do?

We feel helpless.  What can we do?

Some of us who live elsewhere will have the ability to go and work at volunteers in the appropriate ways.    How marvelous!  If not in an official, organized way, people will just be in the way or can be very dangerous.

Others of us can DONATE.  It is greatly needed as the crisis continues and in the aftermath.

You can Donate here to the Red Cross to directly help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.  Even $10, as every dollar helps.  If each of us even did that, it would really add up!

There is Always Prayer

I believe praying for all involved is very powerful.  For those in need and all those responding.

Many are just grateful to be alive!  Here is a mother in an embrace with her daughter at a shelter.  thankfully, so far there has been only one death reported, at this writing.  The rebuilding is a huge task, but it is lives and loved ones that matter most.  But they need our help.  What lies ahead is hugely difficult.

Gratitude

My Flood:  Five years after my flood, I am finally in the finishing stages of putting my home back together.  My son has helped me with the mold, total demolition, and rebuild of many areas.  Remodel is almost completed. 

It has been difficult, as the flood occurred just two weeks prior to the loss of my darling husband, Randy.  I certainly relate to in a small amount of what these folks in Houston are going through with loss of possessions, especially irreplaceable photos and heirlooms.  As well as some loss of life and the threat of it.  It is hard to truly imagine what these folks are going through right now.

Every Day, I feel so grateful to simply still have my home to even work on – when I think of the horrible loss of so many over the last years since, where I have seen folks lose everything.  Their entire homes and possessions in one fell swoop.  What we are seeing now!   I have been very blessed with dear people who have helped me along the way in many ways.  But when the devastation is so widespread all at once, it will take more than kind neighbors, but loving strangers to help these folks.

My Story:  You can read my ongoing DIY story here.  I’ve been updating it as I go.  There’s been a lull as I’ve been so busy on the house but latest updates coming soon if you care to follow.

Halloween Countdown?  What?  Already, you say?  Never too early for a countdown to Halloween, eh dear Minions?  I have to admit when I went to Costco, the other day, skeletons and witches were invading my organic foods space, and I said to myself and anyone within earshot, “What?  Geesh, can’t we wait till at least September?  When I turned the corner and, yep, you guessed it . . . . Christmas decorations were where my  GMO-Free chips were supposed to be.  “Okay . . . that does it, I’m really not ready for this!   Just give me a little space to breathe!” I sighed.

But when I saw this cool reminder on my friend’s facebook page… I knew I was in the game!  So here it is . . . . Reminding us that it is never too early to start thinking about Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins ‘n’ stuff and those mind-bending costumes!    (What are YOU going to be?)  Soon, I’ll be posting Creedence costumes that my dear minions have created over the years after my character in “Troll 2”!  Now that’s an honor.
